Many satellites orbit around Milan, they are pushed by the constant movement generated by the city and its frantic lifestyle. What happens when the city suddenly stops? The short film Doppio is a journey of discovery through the eyes of Sebastian, a young inhabitant of Cascina Molino Doppio. The slow rhythm of a newly found cohabitation with the landscape marks his way of experiencing the lockdown and its uncertain times. The Cascina is a starting point for a new assessment on a more layered way of living, going beyond the dichotomy between the city and the suburb, adding the ultimate element: nature.

  • Edoardo Gabbai

    Producer

I was born and raised in Milan, in a family where arts and culture have always been at the core. After attending an artistic High school, I decided to complete a BA in International Relations at the University of Kent as I wanted to explore the relationship between societies and how politics interact within and between them. My interest in art did not diminish during the degree; on the contrary, I tried to blend my two interest, writing my dissertation on the relationship between arts and politics, the role of cultural institutions and how art could have an impact on society. Following a similar path, I recently graduated in Arts and cultural management at King's college London. My MA thesis was a debut documentary film named (Be)Longing where I combined my political and artistic interest. In (Be)Longing, the concept of Europe is deconstructed by four contemporary artists who retrace the phases that brought them to Europe and their art expresses their dissent to the current situation. My purpose was to question, create a debate around a theme and a reality that too often is not taken into account. I see the power of art as a catalyst for many social issues that need to be addressed.

In order to make the documentary I’ve collaborated with two of my closest childhood friends, creating a close-knit team with whom I intend to work on many more projects in the future.
