Silhouettes

Silhouettes Poster Alt 3_page-0001.jpg

Silhouettes shows the kinetic energy of the working class in New York City, with movement and manifesto in important historical stages. Both visual and verbal language reference the black leaders who once called the city home, while echoing the history of independent cinema in the city.

I was born and largely raised in Toledo, Ohio, with some time spent in Detroit and Atlanta.

In 2014, I spent my first summer in New York City—where I’d spend each summer while studying, before moving to the city full-time in May 2018.

With many nights sleeping on couches and methods of hiding financial instability and housing insecurity, I made space for myself as a laborer on video content productions. Said work was often production assistance on commercials and music videos (for corporate-backed artists). I later found my way into smaller-budget cinema with cherished opportunities on Standing Up, Falling Down (Ratner, 2020), and Ya No Estoy Aqui (Frias, 2019). Later, I took office opportunities in streaming TV (Showtime’s ‘The Loudest Voice,’ HBO’s ‘High Maintenance’)—with the intent of understanding producer-level correspondences and the incentive of a more long-term position.

Throughout my time in NYC, I’ve made space to express myself in writing, music, photography, and video. As we begin to wake from our slumber, I seek to expand my practice in cinema, championing a community of global solidarity and fulfilling my ancestral mission of liberation.
